Why I’m Leaving the US

I grew up believing that most people in this country were good, and cared about their fellow human beings. We helped out when there were natural disasters and pitched in to create good things for the community. I thought racism and sexism were primarily things of the past that were on their way out as people as a whole recognized that these beliefs were false, and destructive both to individuals and society as a whole.

I was wrong.

I don’t know if it was true back then and isn’t anymore, or if I was just protected and naive. However, the last 12 years have been eye openers.

The first time Trump was elected, I put it down to Clinton having a lot of political baggage and people not paying attention to the fact that Trump owed his entire empire to loans from Putin because he was such a bad businessman that he couldn’t get loans from US banks. I assumed they didn’t know of his penchant for lying or that he was taken to court 35,000 times for not paying his bills and cheating his employees out of their wages.

The first 4 Trump years put the first dent into my belief that Americans were good people. I saw rampant racism and sexism. I saw the rich and greedy grabbing everything they could from the middle class. A middle class that was blaming the poor and immigrants for their losses. I saw cruelty for the sake of cruelty.
